                         CLAIMS

In The Event of a Claim

If an accident, loss or damage occurs or any circumstances arise which may cause a claim to be made, you should note the following guidance:

You may and should carry out any emergency action to protect lives or property from further injury, loss or damage (provided that you can do so safely). Any costs incurred in respect of such emergency action will be refunded assuming that you have a valid claim and the expenditure is necessary to prevent further loss. However, permanent non-urgent repairs should be agreed with your insurance company beforehand.

Remember to record details of any other parties involved (including any witnesses) and also including registration numbers in the case of motor accidents.

Please notify ourselves or your insurance company - preferably using their claims helpline telephone number - as soon as possible. Please have your policy number to hand. Please be ready to provide as much information as possible about your claim.

Please do not dispose of any damaged items until the insurance company have had a chance to inspect them – should they wish to do so. In the case of property losses, you may also be required to prove your loss with documentary evidence such as purchase receipts and/or replacement or repair invoices.

You should report to the Police any loss or damage from Theft, Arson or Malicious Damage and obtain a crime reference number from them.

Even if you feel responsible for any accident occurring, you must not admit any responsibility to another party. This might prejudice your insurance company’s position later. However, if you are being held responsible for injury to another or damage to another’s property, then you should advise your insurance company promptly. Any correspondence from the other party should be forwarded upon receipt without answering (although you may acknowledge and advise that it has been passed to your insurance company).

Should you receive notice of an impending prosecution, an inquest, fatal accident inquiry or any Court hearing, such papers must be passed immediately to your insurance company.

Your insurance company may deal with your claim by:

  • requiring you to complete a claim form and supply appropriate documentary evidence by correspondence.
  • appointing an independent loss adjuster to handle the claim.
  • arrange for one of their own claims staff to visit you to discuss the claim.

Please do not hesitate to contact ourselves should you require any assistance or further advice.
